A standard model DBX707 is fitted with a 70mm diameter stainless steel sport exhaust, with new quad tailpipes and an active valve exhaust muffler. Not only does it look intimidating, but this system allows the engine to breath freely and at the same time reduces backflow pressure.
Based on the same V8 engine installed in the DBX V8 550PS model, the Aston Martin powertrain engineers have taken this 4.0-litre V8 twin turbo unit to another level. They have managed to increase the power and torque by 29%, to 707PS and 900Nm. This is an incredible achievement, and one could only guess the countless hours that went into the meticulous fine-tuning of the induction and exhaust pressure, as well as the thermal management systems, the ECU fuel mapping calibration, valve control and torque output profiling. Aston Martin can be proud of this one-of-a-kind model.
The charge air pressure was increased by 26% in the DBX707 model, due to the larger turbos fitted in the induction circuit. Particular changes were made to the exhaust after treatment, effectively reducing the exhaust back pressure. These changes include higher gas flow, straighter exhaust routing and of course the characteristic new quad exhaust tailpipes.
Behind the enlarged front bumper there are additional aux coolers which are responsible for the increased charge air cooling capability of the DBX707. These apertures create around 50% more air flow which better regulates the thermal management of the clutch and engine oils, as well as the charge air cooling, not to forget the under-bonnet temperatures.
Key to the impressive increase in the power output, was the revised engine power and torque mapping. The DBX707 does not only deliver increased power, but attention was given especially to the driver experience through this power delivery. This was achieved through revised throttle mapping to ensure an increase in responsiveness. Furthermore, torque curve shaping allows that the optimal torque output is delivered in any gear, creating a smooth and satisfying driver experience. Power is delivered throughout the engine rpm range, allowing for a sustained torque surge right through to the maximum engine rpm.
The sound of an Aston Martin is unmistakable, and this unique acoustic is proudly continued in the DBX707 model. The thrilling sound is created through careful mapping of valve control timing and fuel overrun, all in combination with the acoustically tuned quad exhaust system. The sound you get from the DBX707 does not only represent Aston Martin, but it serves as an accurate description of what this powerful machine is capable of.
Economy and the environment are important elements that have once again been taken into consideration. The start/stop feature as well as Gasoline Particle Filters (GPF) ensures that the DBX707 complies with all environmental regulations.
Due to the increased torque of 900 Nm, the differential was engineered to upgrade its capability inline with this increased engine power output. The new rear e-differential features a revised final drive ratio which is 7% shorter and comes in at 3.27. Furthermore, it has an increased differential locking capability inline with the 900 Nm of torque. The increased differential locking system in turn led to the revision of the traction control calibration which is now a unique feature on the DBX707. This enhanced calibration ensures that intervention will only occur when absolutely necessary. How this works is that it uses the e-diffs enhanced torque capacity to deliver more torque to the wheel with traction before ESP intervention is required. In Sport+ mode, agility close to handling limitations is maximized, making DBX707 a super sharp vehicle and the segment’s most dynamically capable SUV.
The DB707 AWD includes a fully automated torque distribution system and remains primarily rear wheel drive. It is capable of delivering 47% of the torque to the front axle, on demand. Due to meticulous revision of the center transfer case calibration, this model now has the cornering ability, increased dynamic abilities and the characteristics of a sports car. The DBX707 sits confident and squarely on the road due to the ESP tuning and the revised center differential calibration. Due to this ability, in Sport+ mode, the delivery of torque to the rear wheels will continue with minimal ESP intervention. The driver experience has been greatly enhanced with the on-limit dynamic capability, whilst maintaining optimum traction and agility. This makes the DBX707 a unique phenomenon amongst other AWD SUV models.
